In Memory

Janet Marie Mathews (Corey)

Jan Mathews Corey
July 1, 1950 - March 12, 2024

Janet Marie "Jan" (nee Mathews) Corey (Hobart, Wisconsin) died on March 12, 2024.  Born July 1, 1950, in Plymouth, Wisconsin and raised in Whitefish Bay.  Jan is a 1968 graduate of Whitefish Bay High School and attended University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.  Jan loved people, especially kids.  Her degrees from UW Madison and Penn State were in early childhood development.  She was hired by IBM in 1976 and later transferred to the Green Bay office, where she met and later married her husband, Tom, in 1978.  Tom was first attracted to her by her sense of humor, which she maintained throughout her life.  After their marriage, the couple spent the next 45 years traveling the world together.  Traveling was Jan’s true passion.  Her favorite trip was always the next one she had planned.  Jan loved music played as loud as Tom could stand.  She had an eye for decorating and could turn any house into a beautifully designed home.  She also loved her convertible.  The neighborhood always knew when Jan got home in the summer.  She loved dogs, especially her own, Killer and Duchess.

Jan is survived by her husband, Tom; her brother, Kevin (Cindy) Mathews, Shorewood, WI; many, many nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

Please direct any donations to Big Brothers/Big Sisters (Jan was a big sister) or Father Flanagan Trust Fund, P.0. Box 6000, Boystown, NE 68010.

A celebration of life will be held at Polo Point Clubhouse, 850 DeSoto Circle, Hobart, Wisconsin on Sunday, April 14th, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM.

When she came home from the hospital, she asked Tom to change her voicemail message to, “Can’t talk right now.  I’m out dancing.”  Jan died at home, in peace, after a brief illness.  Keep dancing, Toots.
